The run on the second gTLD round has started!
ICANN to introduce the 2nd round several years after 2012
Navigation in the Internet of today is based on a 26 year old naming convention: The Domain Name System, DNS.
26 years ago the creators of thisĀ incredible intelligent hierarchical system could never have dreamed about or even foreseen the Internet of today: Over 200 Million registered domain names world wide with billions of websites; literally the nerve system of modern economy.
While the Internet constantly evolved the naming system didn’t. That is about to change in 2012: Domains will be commonly available at top-level.
The central question is of course: Which TLD’s shall be created and how do we implement them in a way that creates a maximum value for the stakeholder group of internet users?
It is my personal believe that among the most successful new gTLD’s we will find a lot of niche TLD’s for smaller communities.
That is why I am focusing on community niche TLD’s such as those for the people from Naples or the LGBT community.
